Why You Need To Set Goals To Succeed In Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is a tool used by many brands and business owners to grow their business. By using different marketing techniques business holders are able to, quite simply, succeed in business. In order to make sure that you are succeeding, you will need to set goals. Setting up a projected timeline is a good way to test the effectiveness of your marketing strategy and is also beneficial to check the trajectory of your business. Overall growth is, of course, the biggest goal you will likely have. However, it is not the only goal that you should have.

Follower growth will likely be one of the first goals that you set. Naturally, you want to have your audience following you so that they can see your content—it really goes without saying. But, above this, the biggest goal that you set should be to gain active followers. There is no point to have tens of thousands of followers if you are only receiving ten likes. While you will probably never have a one-to-one follower to like ratio, you should try to have a strong number. Determine what a common ratio is for your industry and try to match it.

Having a timeline for your goals is also a way to keep yourself accountable and track your growth over time. Goals can be overall, or they can be on average. When embarking on a new campaign you should also get specific goals for it—a good way to drive interest is including a call to actions in your posts. For example, from this month-long campaign, I want to gain X new followers and increase average comments to X.

Setting goals is how you know whether your business is, well, working. Basically, if you are not meeting your goals (or, are not making significant progress towards your goals) then your strategy is not working. This is why setting achievable goals is important, and checking your progress towards them, is essential. While it may seem depressing, it is the only way to know whether you are doing the worst thing.

It is important to be realistic about your goals, start small, and build them up. It can be disheartening to not meet your goals immediately, but by lowering your expectations and setting realistic goals you will, hopefully, smash them in no time!
